Items Needed for the 2011 Playground Installation

posted Sep 20, 2011 1:59 PM by Webmaster PTO   [ updated Sep 21, 2011 10:46 AM ]

Garner Elementary in North Liberty is working on the second phase of their playground.  We are looking for VOLUNTEERS to help with the install.  If you would be able and willing to help it would be greatly appreciated.  Food and Drinks will be provided for all those who help!

Dates are Friday September 30th and  Saturday October 1st.  ( NO IOWA GAME)

We are asking for all levels of expertise.  If you can’t “build” something!  That is OK, we need help with the landscaping as well.

We are also looking for a donation of dump truck use!  We need to get and move 3 dump trucks full of rock.  If you know someone or a company that would be willing to donate their time and equipment that would be AWESOME as well.

IF you are interested please Contact:

Nicole Lepic at nicolelepic at gmail dot com  or 319-360-4663

We also are looking for the following tools and Equipment:

NYLON ROPE - 300', at least 1/4" diameter - to anchor the structure

ROPE 100'- to anchor the swings

Wheelbarrows 6 cubic ft capacity - Will need several heavy duty; will be used for concrete, rock, and mulch

6' 2x4s - several

Two - 8 foot or taller ladders

Hand post hole diggers

Carpenter's Levels - 4' & 2'

Electric Drills w/ 1/4" & 3/8" bits

Buckets/Coffee cans for parts

10- 2"x 4"x 2' stakes

Sledge hammers

Digging Shovels

8x8 square tamper

3/8" Ratchet wrench - 3 or more

Set of Allen Wrenches

Tape measures - One 100' & TWO 25'

Hammers & rubber mallets

Utility knives - several

Rakes

Broom

We will have two bobcats to use for spreading rock and mulch but we need OPERATORS for them! We will more than likely be spreading rock and mulch on Saturday, October 1st and the 2nd, if needed.

Please respond to me and let me know what you are able to bring and what days you can volunteer. To those of you who are able to volunteer, please remember to bring gloves, wear appropriate footwear, and mark your tools!

Playground Installation 2011

Good things come to those who wait!

Garner Elementary PTO is proud to announce
that the final install of our amazing playground equipment is about to happen!
We need volunteers of all kinds to help make this install a success- especially because....
It's next week.
We know- short notice. BUT we were looking for a weekend that worked for Landscape Structures, the Building Supervisor, the District AND wasn't a home Hawkeye game.
Install is set for September 30th (8am to Dusk) and October 2nd (8am to completion).
We need people to help with the install, people to provide food and drinks for the volunteers, and tools...Lots and Lots of tools.
People (16 years old and up) who are willing to help with the actual install/providing tools should contact:
People who are willing to help with providing food and drinks
for the volunteers should contact:
Mandy Moellering at amoellering@hotmail.com
If you are member of a group or organization
that may help provide volunteer support- let us know.
With many hands the work will go quickly and we can get this done in two days!
When everyone does a little- no one has to do a lot.
THANK YOU for your support of all of the students at Garner-
we KNOW the kids are going to love this new addition :)

We have a list of needed supplies here.

Garner Gait-er Club

posted Sep 1, 2011 1:02 PM by Webmaster PTO   [ updated Sep 1, 2011 2:52 PM ]

A note from Mrs Bagby:

Hi, everyone.  An FYI to all of you about our running/walking “Garner Gait-er” Club which will be starting up next Tuesday.

Attached is the parent/guardian letter that will be going home with interested 3-6 graders today and the rest of the week.  All details are included in the letter.  However, I want to let you know that  CLUB MEMBERS, will have the opportunity to purchase a “Garner Gait-er”  t-shirt.  This t-shirt will have a special “logo”.  T-shirts will be $8.00 apiece and that is close to cost.  Club members, only, will be purchasing these.

Also, should any of you be interested, or know of an interested parent, who could assist me with this club, whether t-shirt orders, or paper work, or punching participation cards at lunch recess, I would really appreciate the help.  This club should be great for our kids (body-brain connection) and I am hoping they really enjoy it as well.

Thank you for your continued support.

Karen Bagby

If any one is available to help please contact Mrs Bagby.

The letter explaining the Garner Gait-er Club can me found here.
